KING’S KIDS LESSON 2 – WHAT IS THIS BOOK CALLED THE BIBLE?

The Bible is a very special and unique book. It is the Word of God. The Bible was written by 40 men who all wrote exactly what God wanted them to write.

2 Peter 1:21 “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and instruction in righteousness.”

The Bible is divided in 2 parts.

  • The Old Testament
  • The New Testament

The Old Testament talks about a coming Saviour who we know to be Jesus. Everything in the Old Testament is leading to Jesus.

The New Testament talks about and reveals Jesus! The New Testament tells about Him and His work. You read the words that came out of His very own mouth. It’s fascinating really. Jesus, Son of God, Creator of the universe, avenue to Heaven, uses His own words in the Bible to talk to us! Most importantly, the New Testament talks about SALVATION!

Why should you read the Bible?

The Bible is our guide to life. First of all, the Bible leads us to salvation. 2 Timothy 3:15

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

The Bible is our manual to live a life pleasing to God. If you are truly saved you will want to please God and the Bible is where you learn how to do that. The Bible does not lie, confuse or contradict itself. The Bible gives us the doctrine we need.  There are many versions of the Bible today. People all over the world have changed the Bible. Some have added to it, some have taken away from it and some have done both. God knew this would happen and he even warns of this in the Bible.

Deuteronomy 12:32 “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.”

Revelation 22:18-19 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

We need the whole Bible. Just like I quoted verses about not changing God’s Word. I did not take it from one verse and leave it at that. I took 2 versed that were written by different men at different times and the both mean the same thing. God is able to do that.
