Getting the most out of your time with the Bible.
1. Talk to the author - 1 Corinthians 2:14 "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
Presupposes 2 basic things. To know Him (saved) and to be right with Him (in fellowship).
2. Get alone - Job 37:14 "Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God." Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."
When you are quiet and still, that is when God will speak to your heart. It also allows you to give your undivided attention to the Lord!
3. Meditate - Josh. 1:8 "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.", Psalm 1:2 "But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.", 119:15 "I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.", 23 "Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes., 48 "My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.", 78 "Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.", 148 " Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.", 1 Tim. 4:15 "Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all."
Stop and think, look at it from every angle and ask questions. Does this apply to me? Is there a sin to avoid? Is there a promise made?
4. Purpose to obey - John 7:17 "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."
A truth that you can know and understand if you are first willing to obey!
These things will help you get the most out of your time in the Bible.
